The DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association 2013a) Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) offers medical educators an important opportunity to incorporate culturally appropriate assessment techniques into existing curricula and teaching approaches. In this chapter, we review current regulations and published guidelines on the teaching of culturally appropriate assessment in medical student education, resident education, and continuing medical education (CME) and suggest how the CFI can be incorporated into these efforts.
