As of the publication of this text revision (in
the late spring of 2000), the official coding system in use in the
United States is the International Classification
of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification
(ICD-9-CM). Throughout much of the world, the official coding system
is the International Statistical Classification of
Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision
(ICD-10). The preparation of DSM-IV has been closely coordinated
with the preparation of Chapter V, "Mental and Behavioural
Disorders," of ICD-10 (developed by the World Health Organization
in anticipation of its eventual implementation in the United States).
Consultations between the American Psychiatric Association and the
World Health Organization have resulted in DSM-IV codes and terms
that are fully compatible with the codes and terms in the tabular
index of ICD-10. To facilitate the use of DSM-IV internationally,
presented below is the DSM-IV Classification with the ICD-10 codes.
