DSM-IV-TR Casebook Diagnosis of "Bruised"
Excerpt
A 25-year-old female graduate student asked for
a consultation because of depression and marital discord. The patient
had been married for 5 years, during which time both she and her
husband were in school. For the past 3 years, her academic performance
had been consistently better than his, and she attributed their
frequent, intense arguments to this. She noted that she experienced
a feeling of sexual excitement when her husband screamed at her
or hit her in a rage. Sometimes she would taunt him until he had
sexual intercourse with her in a brutal fashion, as if she were being
raped. She experienced the brutality and sense of being punished
as sexually exciting.
